Agartala: Nov 10: On Sunday, Tipra Motha, led by founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, announced plans to submit a memorandum and give deputations to Block Development Officers (BDOs), SDMs, and District Magistrates (DMs) across Tripura on November 14. The party will also present its demands to the Governor on the same day. The key issues include the swift implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, the holding of Village Council elections, and the inclusion of the resettled Bru population in electoral rolls.
Debbarma emphasized the urgent need for the 125th Amendment to the Constitution, which aims to empower tribal communities. Despite support from both the BJP and Congress, the amendment’s implementation remains delayed. He called for its immediate enactment to ensure the welfare of tribal populations in Tripura and nationwide.
During a press briefing in Agartala, Debbarma, joined by party president Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl, revealed that Tipra Motha’s affiliated wings—youth, student, and women’s organizations—will participate actively in the deputation to push for these demands. He also shared that in a recent meeting with Chief Minister Manik Saha, the CM assured that Village Council elections would be conducted as per High Court directives. However, Debbarma confirmed there has been no formal proposal from the BJP for an electoral alliance with Tipra Motha.
A key demand is the inclusion of Bru voters in the Village Council elections. Despite the resettlement of the Bru community across 13 locations in Tripura, the state government has yet to enroll them as voters. The memorandum will urge the state and central governments to take immediate action on these pressing issues, reflecting Tipra Motha’s commitment to protecting the rights of indigenous communities in the state.
