Agartala, Sep 29: Thousands of people including the journalists of Tripura under the banner of the newly formed Forum for Protection of Minorities in Bangladesh (FPMB) on Sunday walked on a rally here in the capital town of Agartala to show solidarity to religious and ethnic minorities in Bangladesh facing persecution.
The rally is to express our solidarity with the minorities in Bangladesh who are under attack, said president of Agartala Press Club Jayanta Bhattacharya. He said, “We are deeply worried of the incidents escalated from the movement for reservation and quota in Bangladesh, where the minorities are being targeted to vandalize and set ablaze their house and properties.”
“This cannot be tolerated. Our forum will continue raising its voice for the rights and justice of minorities in Bangladesh for as long as this menace persists,” he said.
The forum has drafted two memorandums that will be submitted to the Prime Minister of India and the head of the current Bangladesh administration. Bhattacharya said, “We seek direct intervention from the Indian government to protect minorities in Bangladesh.”
