Traffic movement along the busy Assam–Agartala National Highway was disrupted for nearly an hour early Tuesday morning after a massive tree collapsed across the road near Ghoramara Bridge in Ranirbazar under West Tripura district. Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds is believed to have caused the tree to fall, leading to a complete blockade of the highway and affecting movement on one of the region’s key transport routes.

According to official sources, the incident occurred during the early hours of the morning when weather conditions across several areas remained adverse due to continuous rain and gusty winds. Authorities said the Jirania Sub-Divisional Magistrate’s 24×7 control room received an emergency call around 5 a.m., alerting officials about the obstruction and the resulting traffic disruption.

Immediately after receiving the information, volunteers from Scouts & Guides and Civil Defence personnel who were on duty were mobilised and rushed to the site to address the situation. Officials said the emergency response team acted promptly to prevent prolonged disruption and ensure public safety.

Under the leadership of the Sub-Division Secretary of Scouts & Guides, the team reached the affected area and began operations to remove the obstruction. Using cutting equipment and coordinated efforts, the volunteers worked to cut through the large fallen tree and clear the debris scattered across the roadway.

Due to the blockage, vehicular movement on both sides of the highway came to a temporary standstill, leading to inconvenience for commuters and transport vehicles using the route during the early morning hours. However, the rapid response by the volunteers and emergency personnel helped minimise the disruption.

After nearly an hour of intensive efforts, the road was successfully cleared and normal traffic movement resumed. Authorities praised the timely intervention and coordinated action of the volunteers and Civil Defence teams, noting that their swift response prevented a longer disruption on the important highway.

Officials also urged commuters to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions, particularly during the monsoon period, when incidents such as falling trees and road obstructions may occur unexpectedly.
