Agartala/Bengaluru, Aug 28 — The health condition of Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Biswabandhu Sen has shown signs of improvement and is now stated to be stable, according to a medical bulletin issued by Aster CMI Hospital, Bengaluru, where he is undergoing advanced treatment.

Sen was airlifted from Tripura to Bengaluru for specialized medical care after he suffered a serious brain haemorrhage. Doctors at Aster CMI Hospital confirmed that he underwent a decompressive craniotomy to treat a right temporo-parietal haematoma. He has been placed under the care of Dr. Ravi Gopal Varma, Director of the Global Centre for Neurosciences and Lead Consultant Neurosurgeon at the hospital.

The hospital statement noted that Sen had earlier undergone decompressive craniotomy for a left thalamocapsular bleed with intraventricular extension in Tripura. Upon arrival at Aster CMI, he was on ventilator support with stable vitals. A CT brain scan revealed hydrocephalus and raised intracranial pressure, following which doctors performed an emergency right frontal external ventricular drain (EVD) placement.

Later, he underwent tracheostomy and was gradually weaned off ventilator support. “At present, he is breathing on room air,” the bulletin said. The EVD was changed on the eighth day post-procedure to prevent infection. The medical team further reported that the brain pressure has relatively reduced and the left fronto-temporo-parietal flap remains lax.

“Mr. Sen is currently stable, breathing without external support, though his neurological status remains guarded,” the statement added.

The Speaker continues to remain under close observation of a multi-disciplinary team of doctors at the Bengaluru hospital.
