Agartala, Oct 31: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) on Friday observed the 41st death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at the Congress Bhavan in Agartala, paying rich tributes to the late leader’s legacy and her contributions to India’s unity and progress.

The ceremony began with MLA Birajit Sinha hoisting the national flag, followed by State Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha hoisting the party flag. Several senior leaders, including MLAs Sudip Roy Barman and Gopal Chandra Roy, along with party workers and supporters, attended the solemn occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Ashish Kumar Saha highlighted Indira Gandhi’s decisive leadership during critical moments of India’s history, including the 1971 India–Bangladesh war, which reaffirmed India’s strength and regional influence. He described her as a visionary leader who safeguarded the nation’s sovereignty and laid the foundation for social and economic transformation through initiatives like the Green Revolution and poverty alleviation programs.

Saha criticized the current government for, what he termed, “weakening the legacy built under Indira Gandhi’s leadership,” and urged Congress members to stay united and draw inspiration from her ideals to protect the country’s democratic values and integrity.

After paying floral tributes to Indira Gandhi’s portrait at Congress Bhavan, the leaders and workers proceeded to the Gandhi Ghat Martyrs’ Memorial, where they offered wreaths in her memory.

The program concluded with a renewed pledge to uphold Indira Gandhi’s principles of secularism, inclusivity, and national unity, and to work toward restoring the Congress Party’s leadership role in shaping India’s future.
