Agartala, May 19: Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma on Tuesday reiterated the Tripura government’s commitment towards the socio-economic upliftment of indigenous communities, stating that the administration is working with sincerity and dedication to ensure the welfare and progress of tribal people across the state.
The Minister made these remarks while addressing the Felicitation Programme 2026 for Scheduled Tribe (ST) achievers in diverse fields at national and international levels, held at Dasarath Sangduk Hukumu Swrwng Nok in Suparibagan, Agartala. The programme was organized by the Tribal Research and Cultural Institute (TRCI) to recognize and encourage outstanding tribal youth who have brought recognition to the state through their achievements.
Speaking at the event, Debbarma emphasized that the state government has taken several measures to simplify access to welfare schemes and public services for indigenous communities. Highlighting one such initiative, he informed that a single-window system has been introduced in the Tribal Welfare Department. According to him, this mechanism will enable tribal citizens to submit grievances and resolve their issues without unnecessary difficulties or bureaucratic hurdles.
He said the new system aims to make government services more accessible and efficient, ensuring that people receive support and benefits in a timely manner.
During the event, the Minister personally felicitated tribal students and young achievers who have excelled in sports and other fields at both national and international levels. Awards were distributed under different categories to recognize their exceptional performances.
A total of 49 national-level sports achievers received financial assistance of Rs 40,000 each, while 47 international-level sports achievers were awarded Rs 60,000 each. Additionally, three individuals under a special category were presented with awards worth Rs 17,000 each.
Debbarma stated that such recognition is intended to motivate and inspire tribal youths to continue striving for excellence and bring greater glory to Tripura at national and global platforms. He further added that under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, both the Tribal Welfare Department and the state government are making continuous efforts to ensure that indigenous communities fully benefit from state and centrally sponsored schemes.
The programme not only celebrated the achievements of tribal youths but also reflected the government’s broader vision of promoting empowerment, inclusivity, and sustainable development among Tripura’s indigenous population.
