Agartala: Jan 28: In a significant step toward promoting regional languages and enhancing digital participation, the BJP-led coalition government in Tripura has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Digital India Bhashini Division (DIBD) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. This partnership aims to bridge the digital divide and make digital platforms more inclusive for the diverse linguistic communities of Tripura.

The MoU was formalized during the state-level workshop titled “Bhashini Rajyam,” which took place at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala on Tuesday. The workshop was inaugurated by the Information and Technology Minister, Pranajit Singha Roy, in the presence of officials from both his department and Bhashini. The event underscored Bhashini’s vision for digital inclusivity and featured demonstrations of its software capabilities, including real-time translation, speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and voice-to-voice translation between Indian regional languages and English. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) technologies was also highlighted, showcasing their role in achieving high accuracy translations.

The workshop also focused on strategies to promote regional languages on digital platforms, discussing how software applications for the Government of Tripura could be developed to cater to local linguistic needs. This initiative aims to empower citizens by reducing language barriers and ensuring better digital accessibility for all.

With this MoU, Tripura becomes the first northeastern state and the eighth state in India to partner with Bhashini, placing it at the forefront of digital inclusivity efforts in the country. This move is expected to enhance regional language usage in the digital sphere, benefiting a wide array of citizens and communities in Tripura.
