Agartala: Oct 15: The Tripura State Horticulture Directorate has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Patanjali Foods Limited, led by Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, to boost palm oil production in the state. Under the National Mission on Edible Oil and Oil Palm, Patanjali Foods aims to plant oil palms on 1124 hectares during 2023-24 and 2024-25, with 760 hectares already planted. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader goal to enhance oil palm production in Tripura.
Patanjali Foods Limited is also in the process of acquiring land to establish a palm processing unit in the state. The Patanjali Tripura team is working diligently to organize an event for the oil palm cultivation project, which Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev is expected to attend.
Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, North East Head of Patanjali Foods Limited, met with the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura, Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, to discuss the future prospects of oil palm plantations and commercialization. They highlighted the potential socio-economic benefits for farmers and plans to establish a model oil palm nursery, model garden, and commercial neem tree cultivation. Additionally, Tripura’s renowned ginger turmeric is being intercropped with oil palm. Patanjali has also expressed interest in the cultivation and marketing of bamboo and other horticultural crops in the state.
