Agartala, Dec 3:
Tripura is poised to witness a significant expansion in its medical education and healthcare infrastructure with the establishment of an Ayurveda Medical College and a Homeopathy Medical College. Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha announced that the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, has sanctioned ₹140 crore for setting up the two institutions, marking a major boost to the state’s alternative medicine sector.

Sharing the update on social media on Tuesday, Dr. Saha stated that a high-level meeting was convened to finalise the roadmap for the proposed colleges. The discussion focused on infrastructure planning, faculty recruitment, and administrative frameworks required to ensure that both institutions can begin functioning from the next academic session. The Chief Minister emphasised that all necessary steps would be taken promptly so that students aspiring to pursue Ayurveda and Homeopathy studies in Tripura can enrol without delay.

Expressing gratitude for the continued support extended by the Centre, Dr. Saha thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush Prataprao Yadav. He noted that the sanction reflects the Centre’s commitment to strengthening healthcare delivery and expanding medical education opportunities in the Northeast.

The upcoming institutions are expected to play a vital role in promoting Ayush systems of medicine within the state, offering new avenues for professional education and contributing to improved public health services. By enabling specialised treatment in Ayurveda and Homeopathy, the colleges will also help address the rising demand for traditional and holistic healthcare.

Officials said that the Ayush Ministry’s financial support will cover the construction of academic buildings, laboratories, hostels, and other essential facilities. Once operational, the colleges will attract students not only from Tripura but also from other northeastern states, enhancing the region’s medical education landscape.
