Agartala, July 14: Tripura’s organic agricultural products, including its famed Queen pineapples, have received an enthusiastic response from consumers in Dubai, giving a major boost to the state’s efforts to expand its footprint in international markets, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath said.
The minister said the positive reception reflects the dedication of Tripura’s farmers, the commitment of the Agriculture Department, and the state government’s sustained focus on promoting organic farming and connecting premium farm produce with global buyers.
Calling it a significant milestone, Nath said the development would open up new export opportunities, improve farmers’ incomes and strengthen Tripura’s identity as a producer of world-class organic horticultural products. He expressed confidence that the state’s organic produce would continue to find new markets across the world.
On July 10, Nath had flagged off a consignment of Tripura’s organic agricultural products for export to Gulf countries through a Dubai-based retail organisation. The shipment included over 1,300 organic scented lemons, 182 kg of indigenous organic Kalikhasa aromatic rice, and 350 organically grown Queen pineapples, sourced from various Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) in the state.
According to the minister, the Dubai-based organisation is one of the Gulf Cooperation Council’s (GCC) largest retail marketing networks, operating across six GCC countries with procurement links in more than 85 countries. He said the inclusion of Tripura’s organic produce in such a reputed retail chain is a matter of pride and is expected to create long-term opportunities for farmers.
The minister also highlighted that Tripura had recently exported 10,000 kg of organic dried bird’s eye chilli to Germany, underscoring the growing international demand for the state’s organic produce. The latest shipment of fragrant lemons, Kalikhasa rice and Queen pineapples to Dubai marks another milestone in Tripura’s expanding global presence.
Nath said the state government is actively promoting organic farming through certification, branding, value addition and stronger market linkages to ensure better prices for farmers. He expressed optimism that the successful export initiative would encourage more farmers to adopt organic cultivation while further establishing Tripura as an emerging hub for premium organic agricultural products in international markets.
