Udaipur:
Panic and grief engulfed the Agriculture Chowmuhani area late Monday night after a speeding truck lost control and rammed into a residential house, killing an elderly woman and leaving several others seriously injured. The tragic incident has once again highlighted persistent road safety concerns at the busy junction.

According to eyewitnesses, the truck was moving at high speed when the driver reportedly lost control near Agriculture Chowmuhani, a critical traffic point connecting two bridges. The vehicle veered off the road and ploughed straight into a nearby house. The impact was so severe that large portions of the structure collapsed instantly, trapping family members inside the debris.

Hearing the loud crash and desperate cries for help, local residents rushed to the scene and began rescue efforts even before emergency services arrived. Soon after, personnel from the Udaipur Fire Department, police from Radha Kishore Pur Police Station, and administrative officials led by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Tridip Sarkar reached the spot and launched a coordinated rescue operation.

Despite swift action, tragedy could not be averted. Sabita Saha, an elderly woman who was asleep inside the house at the time of the accident, was crushed under the truck and died on the spot. Several other residents sustained severe injuries and were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital, where doctors said their condition remains critical.

The accident has triggered outrage and fear among local residents. Agriculture Chowmuhani is known for heavy vehicular movement and frequent accidents due to its narrow stretches, sharp turns, and lack of adequate traffic control. Locals alleged that poor road planning and insufficient safety measures have turned the junction into a high-risk zone.

Residents have renewed demands for urgent corrective steps, including the construction of an underground pedestrian crossing, installation of speed control mechanisms, and stricter traffic regulation. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the crash.

The devastating incident has cast a pall of gloom over the locality and raised serious questions about road safety infrastructure in Udaipur.
