World Tourism Day to be celebrated in Tripura on Sep 27

Agartala, Sep 25: Tripura, along with the rest of the world is readying the deck to celebrate the World Tourism Day on September 27 next through series of programmes. This year the theme of the day is – ‘’Tourism and Peace’.

Briefing the media regarding the celebration of the world tourism day here at Agartala Ujjayanta Palace on September 27 next, the state tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Wednesday said that this year’s theme for the celebration of World Tourism Day – ‘Tourism and Peace’ will play an important role in valuing and preserving cultural and natural heritage, which perhaps can help reduce tensions and nurture peaceful coexistence.

He said that the celebration has begun from Wednesday with an initiative to travel to India- Bangladesh Maitri Udyan in Chottakhola from Agartala, with the financial support from the Tourism Corporation. As part of the celebration kit bags containing goods of daily use will be distributed among the people affected recently by flood in all the subdivisions and at the same time assistance will also be provided to the flood victims in the rest of the district, he informed.

The Minister further informed that Tripura Tourism brand ambassador Sourav Ganguly has come forward to provide assistance to the affected families of 5 districts of the state.

He said that the main event of the 3-day celebration will be held at Ujjayanta Palace on September 27 next. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha will remain present in the progranmme and honour the heroes, who saved the lives of victims from the deadly flood in Tripura, he said, adding that a special cultural evening will be held on the day, where Kolkata’s famous artist Srikanta Acharya will perform with prominent artists of the state.

At the end of the press conference, the Minister of Tourism flagged off the vehicles carrying support kits sent to the flood-affected areas of the 5 districts for the flood-affected families by the Indian cricket star Sourav Ganguly.
