Agartala, April 27: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday confirmed that around 200 Bangladeshi nationals and some other foreign nationals have been identified in Tripura during a state-wide verification drive. However, he clarified that no Pakistani citizen has been found residing in the state so far.

The statement comes just two days after the Chief Minister held a virtual meeting with District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police across all eight districts, directing them to launch a comprehensive drive to identify any foreign nationals, particularly to verify whether any Pakistani citizen may be living in the state.

“I had a telephonic conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who instructed us to initiate such a drive. Following his guidance, I convened a meeting with the district officials and asked them to carry out the verification process strictly,” Dr. Saha stated. He added that the initial findings showed no trace of any Pakistani nationals, but the presence of around 200 Bangladeshi nationals and some other foreigners has been reported.

Responding to a question about the job offer distribution event held earlier in the day, Dr. Saha reiterated his government’s commitment to merit-based recruitment. He said that since the formation of the BJP-led coalition government, over 17,000 individuals have been selected for various government positions.

“Today we handed out appointment letters in key departments like PWD, Social Welfare, and others. I hope these new recruits will contribute positively to the state’s development,” he said.

Dr. Saha further emphasized that political recommendations no longer influence recruitment in Tripura, reflecting the government’s focus on transparency and fairness in employment processes.
