Agartala: Nov 25: The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI) is set to launch the Land Port Management System (LPMS) at the Agartala Integrated Check Post (ICP) on November 26, marking a revolutionary step in cross-border trade and security infrastructure. The inauguration ceremony will be attended by LPAI Chairman, Shri Aditya Mishra, IPS.

LPAI is efficiently managing three state-of-the-art land ports along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura: Agartala, Srimantpur, and Sabroom. These border posts play a crucial role in facilitating smooth trade and cross-border communication. The Agartala ICP, located within the Agartala Municipal Corporation area, was inaugurated on November 17, 2013. It has since become an important trade hub, simplifying both goods transportation and passenger movement between the two countries. Positioned at the Agartala-Akhaura border, the Agartala ICP has emerged as the second busiest land trade port between India and Bangladesh, after Petrapole-Benapole. According to data for the financial year 2023-24, the port facilitated trade worth ₹318 crore.

The upcoming launch of the LPMS will further enhance bilateral trade and promote regional cooperation. Managed under the Ministry of Home Affairs, LPAI works on improving infrastructure at India’s borders for better security, trade facilitation, and smoother movement of people.

LPMS is a significant technological advancement, offering a single-window system that integrates smart technologies and seamless processes. The system will automate port operations, including slot booking, integrated payments across various sectors, and coordination through streamlined regulations. This will enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and improve security and compliance at the border.

The implementation of LPMS is expected to drive economic growth, strengthen regional connectivity and cooperation, and position India’s land ports as strategic gateways for trade and communication with the South Asian region.
