Tripura Government Enforces Austerity Measures, Introduces Work-From-Home Roster for EmployeesIn line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal to conserve fuel and encourage work-from-home practices, the Tripura government has announced a series of austerity measures aimed at reducing administrative expenditure across the state. The new directives were issued by the General Administration (Administrative Reforms) Department and will come into force with immediate effect until further notice.

According to the official notification, all Heads of Departments (HoDs) have been instructed to ensure that only 50 percent of Group C and Group D employees attend office physically on any given day. The remaining employees will discharge their duties from home. To implement the system effectively, HoDs have been directed to prepare weekly duty rosters for staff members.

The notification further states that during the first week of implementation, preference should be given to employees residing near their respective offices to attend physical duty. The measure is expected to help reduce fuel consumption, ease transportation-related expenses, and support broader efforts to conserve energy resources.

Employees assigned to work from home have been instructed to remain available through telephone and other communication channels during office hours. They must also report to the office immediately if any urgent or essential work requires their presence. The government has emphasized that departmental functioning should not be affected due to the new arrangement.

The austerity measures are not limited to state secretariat departments alone. The instructions will also apply to Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), local bodies, autonomous organizations, statutory agencies, and subordinate offices functioning under the Tripura government.

However, offices and personnel engaged in essential and emergency services have been exempted from the order to ensure uninterrupted delivery of critical public services.

The notification was undersigned by A.K. Bhattacharya, Special Secretary to the Government of Tripura. Officials stated that the decision reflects the state government’s commitment to supporting national efforts toward fuel conservation and cost-cutting while maintaining administrati

ve efficiency.
