Agartala, May 15:
Amid growing concerns over law and order in Tripura’s tribal belt, a delegation of the Tipra Motha Party on Friday met Director General of Police (DGP) Anurag and demanded immediate intervention to curb alleged political violence and restore peace in the Takarjala Assembly Constituency.

The delegation, led by MLA Biswajit Kalai and MDC Suraj Debbarma, submitted a memorandum highlighting a series of violent incidents that allegedly took place during and after the TTAADC General Election 2026. The party leaders claimed that residents of Takarjala and adjoining Jampuijala areas are living in fear due to repeated incidents of attacks, bomb explosions, and intimidation.

According to the memorandum, tensions escalated following an alleged attack on April 10 near the residence of BJP candidate and Mandal President Nirmal Debbarma. Tipra Motha leaders alleged that their supporters were assaulted with firearms and sharp weapons during the incident, leaving several people injured, including the Superintendent of Police of Sepahijala district.

The delegation further alleged that on the night of May 9, four bomb explosions occurred at the houses of Tipra Motha supporters in Takarjala and Jampuijala, creating panic among local residents. In another reported incident, a member of the Youth Tipra Federation was allegedly targeted in a firing attack by unidentified assailants.

Tipra Motha leaders accused certain BJP workers of being involved in the incidents and claimed that political influence was obstructing a fair and impartial investigation. They alleged that some accused individuals were being sheltered in Agartala while police action against them remained slow and inconclusive.

Demanding urgent administrative action, the delegation urged the police to intensify patrolling in vulnerable areas, deploy additional security personnel in sensitive zones, and form a special task force to identify and arrest those responsible for the violence.

The leaders assured the police administration of their cooperation in maintaining peace and communal harmony but stressed that immediate steps were necessary to prevent further deterioration of the situation.

The latest allegations have once again brought attention to the law and order situation in Tripura’s tribal areas, raising concerns over political tension, security arrangements, and the neutrality of ongoing investigations into the incidents.
