Agartala, May 16: Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) Mayor Dipak Majumder on Saturday conducted a special inspection of civic amenities and infrastructure projects in Ward No. 23, with a focus on strengthening the drainage system ahead of the monsoon season.

During the visit, the Mayor reviewed the condition of drains, roads, and other essential civic facilities in different parts of the ward. He closely examined areas facing drainage-related problems and interacted with local officials regarding ongoing maintenance and development work.

Following the inspection, Mayor Majumder directed concerned officers and engineers of the Municipal Corporation to take immediate steps for renovation and repair of old and dilapidated drainage systems in the locality. He stressed the need for timely action to prevent water-logging and ensure smooth flow of rainwater during the upcoming monsoon.

Speaking during the inspection, the Mayor said that modernization of the city’s drainage network remains one of the top priorities of the Agartala Municipal Corporation. He stated that AMC is working on a long-term plan to improve urban infrastructure and provide permanent solutions to recurring civic problems faced by residents during heavy rainfall.

“Our main objective is to modernize the drainage system before the monsoon so that residents do not suffer from water-logging and related issues. We are committed to strengthening civic infrastructure and ensuring better public services across the city,” he said.

The inspection programme was attended by Ward No. 23 Corporator Manimukta Bhattacharjee, AMC East Zone Chairman Sukhamay Saha, along with senior engineers and officials of the Municipal Corporation. The team inspected several vulnerable spots where drainage congestion and poor infrastructure had earlier caused inconvenience to residents.

Officials accompanying the Mayor informed that renovation and cleaning work in different wards of the city are being accelerated to improve preparedness before the onset of monsoon rains.

Mayor Majumder further emphasized that AMC remains committed to ensuring cleaner surroundings, improved sanitation, and better civic amenities for citizens. He added that regular inspections and monitoring of infrastructure projects would continue to ensure timely completion of development works and effective delivery of municipal services across Agartala.
