Agartala, May 17:
Launching a sharp attack on the BJP-led Central government, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman on Sunday alleged that the country was facing an economic crisis under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while corruption, unemployment, price rise and repeated examination scams were destroying the future of the youth.
Roy Barman, a former Minister and senior Congress leader, made the remarks while addressing reporters in Agartala on the sidelines of the first State Executive meeting of the Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress. The programme was attended by several senior Congress and Youth Congress leaders, including Uday Bhanu Chib, national in-charge Manish Sharma and Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee president Asish Kumar Saha.
The Congress MLA alleged that India, once seen as a fast-growing global economic power, was now witnessing a widening gap between the rich and the poor under BJP rule. According to him, a handful of “crony capitalists” were benefiting at the cost of ordinary citizens, who were being pushed deeper into debt and financial hardship.
Roy Barman claimed that corruption had reached alarming levels during the last decade and accused the BJP government of failing to control inflation. He said the continuous rise in the prices of essential commodities had made life difficult for poor and middle-class families across the country.
“The poor and middle-class people are suffering the most. Essential commodities are becoming unaffordable for ordinary citizens while a select group of businessmen continue to benefit,” he alleged.
The former Minister also strongly criticised the BJP government over repeated examination paper leak controversies, including the NEET issue and several recruitment examination scams reported from different states.
He alleged that merit and talent were being compromised for money and claimed that deserving students and unemployed youths were losing faith in the system due to repeated irregularities.
Questioning the role of central investigative agencies like the CBI, Roy Barman alleged that while some arrests were made, the “real masterminds” behind the scams were never exposed.
Calling for democratic protests, he urged youths to unite against corruption and unemployment and appealed to them not to remain silent while the future of the country was at stake.
