Tripura Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath met Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the national capital on Monday to discuss matters related to agricultural development and farmers’ welfare, drawing attention to the state’s evolving priorities in the sector.

The meeting took place at a time when Tripura is placing increasing focus on strengthening its agricultural framework, improving rural livelihoods and expanding support systems for farmers across the state. The interaction is being viewed as significant in the context of ongoing efforts to align state-level initiatives with broader national agricultural programmes.

As part of the meeting, Nath presented Chouhan with a Risha, a traditional handwoven cloth of Tripura that holds cultural and social significance in the state. The gesture reflected the rich heritage of Tripura and symbolised respect and goodwill on behalf of the people of the state.

Sharing details about the meeting on social media, Nath described the interaction as an important opportunity to exchange views on agricultural growth and farmer welfare. He stated that discussions centred on strengthening the agriculture sector and improving support for the farming community.

Sources indicated that various issues concerning agricultural development and future opportunities may have been discussed during the interaction. Officials believe such meetings create avenues for better coordination between the state and the Centre and can facilitate greater support for agricultural initiatives in Tripura.

The state government has been emphasizing measures aimed at increasing agricultural productivity, encouraging diversification of crops and promoting modern farming techniques among cultivators. Particular attention has also been given to improving the income and living standards of farmers, especially small and marginal cultivators.

Officials noted that future collaboration with the Union Agriculture Ministry could provide opportunities for expanding welfare schemes, introducing advanced farming practices and improving access to resources and technology for farmers in Tripura.

The meeting also reflects the state government’s continued efforts to strengthen agricultural policies and create long-term strategies focused on sustainable growth, farmer welfare and improved agricultural infrastructure across Tripura.
