In a significant step towards promoting self-employment and strengthening rural livelihoods, a programme for the distribution of ducklings and chicks among Self-Help Groups (SHGs) was organised at Lok Bhavan in Agartala on Thursday. The initiative was held in the presence of Tripura Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu as part of the state’s ongoing efforts to encourage duck and poultry farming.
The programme aims to empower rural women and SHG members by providing them with sustainable livelihood opportunities through poultry and duck rearing. The distribution of ducklings and chicks is expected to help beneficiaries generate additional income while contributing to the growth of the state’s livestock sector.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Nallu highlighted the importance of animal husbandry and poultry farming in improving the socio-economic condition of rural households. He said that small-scale poultry and duck farming can play a crucial role in enhancing income generation, nutritional security and employment opportunities, particularly in rural and tribal areas.
The Governor also appreciated the efforts of the concerned departments and agencies involved in implementing welfare schemes aimed at strengthening self-reliance among women and economically weaker sections of society. He encouraged SHG members to make effective use of the support provided by the government and adopt modern farming practices to improve productivity and profitability.
Officials present at the event informed that the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to boost poultry and duck production across Tripura. By extending assistance to SHGs, the government seeks to create a sustainable ecosystem for livestock-based entrepreneurship and rural development.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support and said that the distribution programme would help them expand their livelihood activities and improve their financial stability.
The event concluded with the distribution of ducklings and chicks to selected SHGs, reaffirming the government’s commitment to promoting rural entrepreneurship and enhancing economic opportunities for communities across the state.
