Agartala, June 13: Assam Rajya Sabha MP Kanak Purkayastha undertook a series of programmes across Tripura this week, highlighting the achievements of the NDA government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and emphasizing collective efforts towards building a developed and self-reliant India by 2047.

Purkayastha participated in the “Viksit Bharat Sankalp Convention” held at Kajaria Community Hall in Sepahijala district, where he spoke on the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and the importance of public participation in achieving the national development agenda. He said the initiative builds upon the progress made during the past 12 years in governance, welfare delivery, infrastructure development and self-reliance.

During his visit, the MP also joined the Pragati Path Yatra at the construction site of the proposed Unity Mall campus in Agartala. The Rs 150-crore project, expected to be completed by 2027, is aimed at promoting indigenous products, handicrafts, GI-tagged goods and One District One Product (ODOP) items from different parts of the country. Purkayastha said the project reflects the spirit of “Vocal for Local” and “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat”.

As part of his outreach programme, he participated in a tree plantation drive at Tripura University and held discussions with Registrar Dr. Samir Kumar Sil on educational development and future opportunities. He also felicitated noted educationist Harjeet Nath in recognition of his contribution to technical education.

The Rajya Sabha MP further met Dronacharya Awardee coach Bishweshwar Nandi and appreciated his contribution to nurturing sporting talent and bringing laurels to the country. Later, he visited the International Cricket Stadium at Narsingarh, where he joined another plantation programme and interacted with officials of the Tripura Cricket Association.

Purkayastha stressed that strengthening sports infrastructure and supporting athletes remain key priorities of the government’s broader vision for youth development.

The visit concluded with discussions at the BJP Tripura Pradesh office in Agartala, where Purkayastha met state BJP president Abhishek Debroy and other party leaders. The meeting focused on organisational matters, future programmes and strategies aimed at further strengthening the party and expanding public outreach across the state.
