Agartala, June 13: The Tripura Pradesh Youth Congress on Friday submitted a deputation to the Director of Health Services, urging the state government to extend the deadline for updating registration details of nurses under the Tripura Nursing Council.

The demand comes in response to a notification issued on June 10, 2026, which requires registered nurses to update their records within a stipulated period. The Youth Congress argued that the timeframe provided is too short and poses significant difficulties for a large number of nurses currently working outside the state.

A delegation led by Pradesh Youth Congress president Neel Kamal Saha met health officials and highlighted the challenges faced by nurses employed in hospitals and healthcare institutions across different parts of the country. According to the delegation, many of these professionals would find it difficult to travel to Tripura and complete the required formalities within the prescribed deadline.

Speaking to reporters after submitting the deputation, Saha said rising travel expenses and the difficulty of obtaining sudden leave from employers have become major obstacles for nurses working outside the state.

“A large number of Tripura’s registered nurses are serving in healthcare institutions across India. It is neither practical nor financially viable for many of them to return home at short notice to complete the registration update process,” he said.

Describing the current deadline as unrealistic and inconvenient, the Youth Congress placed two key demands before the authorities. First, it called for the immediate introduction of an online system that would enable nurses residing outside Tripura to update their registration details remotely. Secondly, it sought a substantial extension of the deadline if online facilities cannot be implemented immediately.

The delegation emphasized that nurses constitute an important segment of the healthcare workforce and that administrative decisions should take their professional commitments and practical difficulties into consideration.

Youth Congress leaders argued that extending the deadline would ensure compliance with the registration process while avoiding unnecessary financial burdens and workplace disruptions for nursing professionals.

According to party sources, officials at the Directorate of Health Services assured the delegation that the matter would be placed before the appropriate authorities for consideration.

The Youth Congress expressed hope that the government would take a positive decision to facilitate a smooth and inclusive registration update process for all nurses registered under the Tripura Nursing Council.
