The Tripura government has recruited 4,879 Graduate and Post-Graduate Teachers between the 2018-19 and 2025-26 academic years, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha informed the State Assembly on Thursday.

Participating in a discussion on a public-interest notice regarding teacher shortages, Dr Saha said the government had also deputed 2,684 teachers from state-run schools to institutions administered by the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The move was aimed at ensuring that students in ADC areas did not face disruption in their studies.

The issue of teacher shortages across schools in the state was raised by Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury.

The Chief Minister said that since 2018, the Directorate of Secondary Education had appointed 1,413 Post-Graduate Teachers and 1,471 Graduate Teachers. In addition, 145 Special Educators, 117 School Librarians and 105 Physical Education Teachers had been recruited.

He said the process of filling vacant teaching positions under elementary and secondary education had already begun. Recruitment for 352 vacant pre-primary teacher posts is also underway, with document verification currently in progress following completion of the selection test.

For Assistant Teacher (Primary)/Undergraduate Teacher posts for Classes I to V through TET-I, the government has sent requisitions to the Teachers’ Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT), for filling 1,036 vacancies.

Similarly, requisitions have been submitted for 1,020 Graduate Teacher/Assistant Teacher posts for Classes V to VIII through TET-II. Recruitment for another 700 Graduate Teacher (STGT) posts is also underway.

Dr Saha said teacher recruitment should not be viewed merely as an employment exercise, but as an investment in the future of students and the state’s education system.

“Recruiting a teacher means strengthening a classroom, illuminating a child’s future and making tomorrow’s Tripura stronger,” the Chief Minister said.

He reiterated that ensuring access to quality education for every child remains one of the government’s top priorities and assured that efforts would continue to address vacancies and strengthen teaching capacity across the state.
