Agartala: Feb 11: There is an extreme scarcity of drinking water in various tribal areas of Mandai block under Jirania subdivision. Despite this, the concerned department and local leaders and ministers remain indifferent. The promises made before the elections to improve drinking water facilities and build roads and ghats have not been fulfilled. These promises are now met with silence as those who made them enjoy the comfort of their cars, oblivious to the plight of the people.
In Dinan Kobra Para of Manikung ADC village under Mandai block, the scarcity of drinking water is particularly severe. Residents have been surviving by drinking water from streams, but this source becomes undrinkable during the rainy season. The community has appealed to the concerned department and the government to make arrangements for a reliable drinking water supply in the area. Tanushree Debbarma spoke to the media to highlight their plight.
