Agartala Sept 26: Among different kinds of services, environmental service is an important one, and it is essential to help in restoring our environment and contribute to the well-being of all communities, said Minister Animesh Debbarma.

The minister for Science, Technology and Environment Department, Animesh Debbarma made the statement as he addressed an exchange meeting held on Thursday with various Clubs and NGOs to discuss preventive measures for controlling noise, water and air pollution and also to put a check on single-use of plastic especially with the festival season at front.

The program held at Sukanta Academy, Agartala jointly organized under the initiative of Tripura State Pollution Control Board and Tripura EIACP Hub also saw the presence of several other dignitaries including West Tripura District Magistrate Dr Vishal Kumar, Dr K Sashi Kumar Secretary, Tripura Science, Technology and Environment Department, Dr Bishu Karmakar, Member Secretary, Tripura State Pollution Control Board, Additional Superintendent of Police Dhruv Nath, Mahendra Singh, Director Department of Science and Technology among others.

In his address, the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment Department, Animesh Debbarma, emphasized the importance of maintaining pollution within certain limits.

He drew parallels between the necessity of melodious music for joyous occasions and the adverse effects of excessive noise, urging everyone to contribute to a pollution-free and clean Tripura.

Stressing the importance of ensuring that words and actions do not harm others, Dr K Sashi Kumar, Secretary of the Tripura Science, Technology and Environment Department and Chairman of the Tripura State Pollution Control Board in his address highlighted the frequent complaints about noise pollution during puja days.

Dr. Bishu Karmakar, Member Secretary of the Board, presented a detailed PowerPoint on state laws regarding noise pollution, regulations for idols and pandal construction, and post-puja ceremonies. He urged compliance with these laws to minimize pollution.

Vishal Kumar, District Magistrate of West Tripura, while addressing the program called for controlled use of sound systems and DJ sets, emphasizing that livelihoods depend on these businesses. He noted that legal action would be taken against any illegal activities.

Meanwhile, Additional Superintendent of Police, Dhruv Nath, announced plans for awareness programs to ensure the installation of sound limiters in sound systems.

The speakers urged the common people to come forward unitedly to ensure reduction in pollution and move towards the goal of forming a healthier environment.
