Agartala: Mar 11: In a significant development, Member of Parliament (MP) Rajib Bhattacharjee raised the demand for a super-speciality hospital in Tripura, similar to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), during the Zero Hour session in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday. Bhattacharjee, highlighting the progress made under the BJP-led central government since 2014, emphasized that the pace of development in the northeastern region has accelerated, including in Tripura. He pointed out that Tripura now has three medical colleges, and efforts are underway to improve the healthcare system in the state.

Bhattacharjee took a swipe at the previous Communist regime in Tripura, criticizing them for their lack of contribution to the state’s development. He recalled the Communist slogan, “Give, give, or else break and destroy,” and claimed that neither the CPM nor the Congress did anything substantial for the welfare of the state’s people, especially the poor. According to Bhattacharjee, these parties had only exploited the poor without bringing about any real progress.

During his speech, Bhattacharjee appealed to the Union Health Minister to establish a super-speciality hospital in Tripura, on the lines of AIIMS. He argued that such an institution would greatly benefit the people of the state by providing better healthcare facilities. Bhattacharya reminded the House that the BJP had promised to build a hospital similar to AIIMS in Tripura when the party came to power in 2018.

This issue had been raised recently by the opposition, especially by Leader of the Opposition, Jitendra Choudhury, who questioned why this promise had not been fulfilled after seven years of the BJP government. Bhattacharya, addressing the ongoing concerns, reiterated his demand in Parliament, urging the central government to honor its commitment and expedite the establishment of the hospital in the state.
