Agartala: Mar 12: On Wednesday, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha chaired a review meeting of the Tripura State Wildlife Board at the conference hall of the Secretariat. The meeting focused on safeguarding forest resources and endangered species while exploring ways to boost tourism linked to wildlife and natural conservation. Dr. Saha emphasized the importance of protecting Tripura’s forests and wildlife, urging forest officials to approach this task with innovative ideas.

Dr. Saha underscored the potential of forests and wildlife in attracting tourists both from within India and abroad. He stressed that a responsible approach to conservation is crucial for making Tripura more attractive as a tourist destination. The Chief Minister directed officials to prioritize the protection of forest resources and endangered wildlife, aiming to enhance tourism in the state’s national parks and sanctuaries. He also proposed the introduction of an elephant safari, which would not only attract tourists but also provide employment opportunities for people living in rural and interior areas of the state.

In addition, Dr. Saha highlighted the need for measures to prevent human-wildlife conflict, particularly regarding wild elephants that often venture into residential areas. He called for the promotion of tourist centers and for provisions to be made to ensure adequate food supply for elephants. Furthermore, Dr. Saha advised authorities to conduct a detailed survey to understand the reasons behind the extinction of vultures in Tripura.

State Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma also suggested incorporating innovative ideas from sanctuaries across the country and abroad to enhance the state’s sanctuaries. During the meeting, Chief Conservator of Forests R.K. Samal presented a pictorial report outlining the various initiatives and programs undertaken by the Forest Department to support wildlife conservation in Tripura.
