Agartala: April 01: On the final day of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, who also holds the position of Home Minister, outlined the state’s measures to prevent illegal infiltration and human trafficking. Responding to a question from MLA Ranjit Debbarma, Dr. Saha highlighted a series of proactive steps taken by the government to address these pressing issues.

Dr. Saha emphasized that the state government has implemented joint patrolling along the unfenced areas of the international border, in collaboration with the Border Security Force (BSF). This initiative aims to strengthen border security and prevent illegal infiltration. Additionally, the state government has formed district-level Anti-Human Trafficking Units to curb the growing concern of human trafficking.

The Chief Minister revealed that under the Indian Passports Act and the Foreigners Act, a total of 112 cases were registered in 2022, followed by 303 cases in 2023, and 327 cases in 2024, against illegal infiltrators and border brokers. He further noted that strict actions have been taken in 2024 under Section 370 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 143(2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) Act, 2023.

To combat human trafficking, the police administration has conducted raids on brokers facilitating illegal movement from Bangladesh to India, based on intelligence gathered from confidential sources. Dr. Saha also mentioned that the Government Railway Police (GRP) is maintaining vigilance at railway stations and platforms, conducting regular vehicle checks near these stations, and inspecting settlements along railway tracks.

Additionally, the state police organize “Prayas” meetings to raise awareness about human trafficking, particularly in border areas. These comprehensive measures reflect the government’s commitment to safeguarding the state from illegal activities and human trafficking.
