Agartala: April 19: Member of Parliament Biplab Kumar Deb on Saturday reviewed the progress of the Smriti Van’ scheme, a project he had launched in 2020 during his tenure as the Chief Minister of Tripura. The initiative, introduced under the Mukhyamantri Model Village project, was designed to encourage people to plant trees in memory of their ancestors or loved ones, promoting both environmental awareness and emotional connection to nature.

The scheme was initially launched at four locations, with the aim of developing sustainable and green model villages. As a personal tribute, Deb had planted a sapling at Borakha (Patni) in Mandwi in memory of his father, late Hirudhan Deb, marking the beginning of this meaningful initiative.

During Saturday’s visit, Biplab Deb returned to the same site at Borakha to review the project’s implementation and current status. He interacted with local residents and held discussions with officials from the Forest Department to evaluate the scheme’s progress and explore avenues for its broader execution across the state.

Speaking at the site, Deb urged citizens to take ownership of the ‘Smriti Van’ in their areas and safeguard the green spaces created under the scheme. He emphasized the importance of community participation in ensuring the long-term success of the project and in fostering a culture of respect for both nature and personal legacy.

He also highlighted the dual purpose of the initiative—preserving the environment while also honoring memories of loved ones, making it a unique and emotional drive with ecological significance.

The visit reinforced Deb’s continued commitment to sustainable development and his vision of community-led environmental action, as well as a reminder of the emotional roots behind green initiatives like Smriti Van.
