Agartala: April 21: In a moment of immense pride for Tripura, Gomati District Magistrate Tarit Kanti Chakma and Ganganagar Block of Dhalai District have been conferred with the Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration 2024. The awards were presented by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a prestigious ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi, during the Civil Services Day celebrations on Monday.

Tarit Kanti Chakma, serving as the District Magistrate and Collector of Gomati, received the award in the category of ‘Holistic Development of Districts’, recognizing the district’s notable achievements in inclusive and comprehensive development. Congratulating Chakma, Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha lauded the accomplishment on social media, calling it “a proud moment for the state.”

In a parallel achievement, Ganganagar Block in Dhalai District was honored under the ‘Aspirational Blocks Programme’ category. Saju Wahid A, District Magistrate and Collector of Dhalai, received the award on behalf of the residents of Ganganagar.

A compelling visual presentation detailed Ganganagar’s development journey, showcasing significant milestones such as the connection of over 2,200 households to Self-Help Group (SHG) networks, 100% allocation of revolving funds to SHGs, construction of 1,600 houses, and universal supplementary nutrition coverage for pregnant women. The block has also made significant progress in digital education, with the successful implementation of e-learning platforms and digital boards in schools.

According to a press release from the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration aim to recognize exceptional and innovative work by districts and government organizations across India. For the 2024 edition, 1,588 nominations were received across three categories: Holistic Development of Districts, Aspirational Blocks Programme, and Innovation. After a rigorous evaluation process, 14 awardees were selected.

Each award includes a trophy, a scroll, and a financial grant of ₹20 lakh, which will be used to continue or scale up impactful public welfare initiatives.
