Agartala, May 17: In honor of the 126th birth anniversary of the legendary poet Kazi Nazrul Islam, the Kazi Nazrul Academy and Research Foundation, Agartala, will organize a grand four-day cultural festival titled Nazrul Milan Mela and Cultural Festival from May 23 to May 26, 2025. The event will take place at the Renter’s Society, located near Jogendranagar Railway Station in Agartala, Tripura.

The festival is dedicated to celebrating the life, literary works, and social contributions of Kazi Nazrul Islam, one of South Asia’s most influential figures in literature, music, and social reform. It aims to bring together poets, artists, scholars, and cultural personalities from West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura, creating a platform for the exchange of regional and multilingual cultural expressions while promoting Nazrul’s vision of unity and progress through art.

Key highlights of the event will include:

  • Drawing Competitions
  • Workshops on Singing, Recitation, and Dance
  • Performances inspired by Nazrul’s work

One of the main attractions will be the Multilingual Poets’ Conference, scheduled for May 24, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. This session will feature recitations of Nazrul’s iconic poems, as well as original literary compositions inspired by his rebellious spirit, fostering a cross-cultural literary dialogue.

In anticipation of the festival, a press conference was held today at the Agartala Press Club, where Shri Dipak Majumder, President of the Academy, detailed the festival’s significance and program structure. He was joined by other prominent figures, including Advocate Sandeep Dutta Choudhury, Vice President, and Smt. Chitra Roy.

On May 24, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury will inaugurate the event, followed by Minister Ramprasad Paul on May 25. The festival will conclude with the presence of Chief Minister Dr. (Prof) Manik Saha.

The Academy leadership has invited everyone with an appreciation for culture and the arts to join in celebrating Kazi Nazrul Islam’s legacy. For more details on the event schedule, participation, and downloadable materials, visit the official website: https://kazinazrulacademy.org.
