Agartala, May 17: In a significant step toward improving access to higher education, the Tripura government has decided to establish three new government degree colleges from the current academic session. The colleges will be set up at Ambassa in Dhalai district and Kakraban and Karbook in Gomati district.

The decision is part of the state government’s broader commitment to promoting quality education and ensuring that students across all regions, especially in remote and underdeveloped areas, have better access to academic opportunities. These new institutions aim to bridge the educational gap in these subdivisions and contribute to the overall socio-economic development of the region.

According to the Department of Higher Education, the colleges will offer a variety of undergraduate courses across multiple disciplines. The specific courses and student intake capacity will be determined based on demand and resource availability, and will be announced by the department in due course.

Admissions will follow the rules and regulations of the affiliating university, and all reservations will be made in accordance with the latest Reservation Acts and Rules of the State Government.

Academic affairs—including curriculum design, examinations, and instruction—will be governed by the guidelines of the affiliating university and the Education (Higher) Department of Tripura. The appointment of principals, teaching faculty, and support staff will be managed by the department based on institutional needs.

Additionally, all official records including certificates, financial accounts, and administrative matters will be maintained under the respective college names. The move is expected to significantly benefit students in these regions by enhancing educational infrastructure and opportunities, and by laying a strong foundation for academic and professional growth in Tripura.
