Agartala: May 21: Tripura MP Rajib Bhattacharjee recently visited a Bru settlement site to assess the implementation of the historic quadripartite agreement signed in 2020, which paved the way for the resettlement of displaced Bru families. After decades of living as refugees within their own country, members of the Bru community are finally witnessing a new beginning, thanks to this landmark agreement.

The agreement, involving the Central Government, Tripura Government, Mizoram Government, and Bru representatives, aims to provide a permanent solution for the thousands of Bru families who fled ethnic violence in Mizoram and were living in temporary camps in Tripura.

During his visit, MP Bhattacharjee observed the progress made under the ₹668 crore development package announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah last year. This comprehensive package includes permanent housing, electricity connections, clean drinking water, healthcare, educational infrastructure, and road connectivity for the resettled families.

The rehabilitation project is being executed under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with close coordination between the BJP-led Central Government and the Tripura State Government. Officials informed the MP that many families have already moved into new homes with access to essential services.

Speaking to the media, Bhattacharjee emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring a dignified life for all citizens, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, or language. “This is not just a rehabilitation program — it is a step toward justice and humanity. The Bru agreement is a reflection of inclusive governance and a compassionate approach to long-standing issues,” he said.

The Bru resettlement initiative has brought new hope to thousands who had endured life in relief camps for years. With structured support and political will, the government aims to fully integrate the Bru community into mainstream society, turning a humanitarian crisis into a model of peaceful resolution.
