Agartala: July 12: In a bold political initiative, Tipra Motha youth leader David Murasing has launched a 2,500-kilometre foot march from Agartala to New Delhi to press for the creation of ‘Greater Tipraland’ and the immediate deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants from Tripura and across India.

Murasing began his journey on July 5 from Agartala and reached the Tripura-Assam border at Churaibari on Saturday. A large gathering of Tipra Motha supporters, leaders, and party workers welcomed him at the state’s final outpost before he continued into Assam. A brief send-off ceremony marked the occasion, symbolizing unity and support for the march.

Senior Tipra Motha leaders, including Tripura Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker Brishaketu Debbarma, Raima Valley MLA Nandita Debbarma, TTAADC Chairman Jagadish Debbarma, EM Runel Debbarma, and MDCs Dhirendra Debbarma and Saudagar Kalai, were present alongside grassroots workers and party members.

Murasing explained that the march aims to bring long-standing demands directly to the central government. He expressed disappointment that nearly 18 months after submitting a memorandum to the Centre seeking constitutional safeguards for indigenous communities and the formation of ‘Greater Tipraland,’ no significant action has been taken.

He also criticized the government for inaction on the deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, which he said remains a serious concern for Tripura’s indigenous population.

“This is not just a political march. It’s about protecting our rights, our land, and the future of the Tiprasa people,” Murasing said.

The send-off witnessed a strong show of solidarity, with hundreds rallying behind Murasing, underscoring the growing momentum behind the Greater Tipraland movement.
