Agartala: July 27: Former Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday emphasized the need for mutual compromise in a coalition government, asserting that no single party’s ideology can prevail in an alliance setup. His remarks came amid rising tensions between the ruling BJP and its ally Tipra Motha over issues such as illegal immigration and electoral reforms.

“In an alliance, sacrifices must be made by all partners. Unlike a government with an absolute majority, coalitions require collaboration and understanding from both sides,” Deb said, responding to Tipra Motha’s criticism of the state government’s alleged inaction on identifying and deporting illegal immigrants.

Referring to the Ministry of Home Affairs’ directive issued two months ago under Operation Sindoor, Deb clarified that the nationwide process of identifying and deporting illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Pakistan is already underway. He drew comparisons with deportation practices in countries like the USA, stressing that national laws must be respected.

“India is not an open door. Anyone entering illegally harms our economy and national security. This government, under Narendra Modi’s leadership, will act in the interest of the nation,” Deb asserted.

On granting citizenship, he noted that many refugees have been legally accommodated through proper channels. “Those who sneak in to conspire or destabilize the country will not be tolerated,” he warned.

Responding to Tipra Motha leader Pradyot Kishore Debbarma’s demand for a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Tripura’s electoral rolls, Deb clarified that the matter lies solely with the Election Commission of India and is beyond the purview of the central government.

Deb’s remarks come amid deepening rifts within the BJP–Tipra Motha alliance over unfulfilled tribal assurances and governance concerns.
