Agartala, August 4: In a significant administrative reshuffle, the Tripura state government on Monday transferred several senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police (SP) of West Tripura and Gomati districts.
As per the official notification, West Tripura SP Kiran Kumar K. has been transferred to Gomati district. Replacing him in West Tripura is Namit Pathak, who previously held the post of SP in Gomati.
This transfer comes in the backdrop of an earlier controversy involving Pathak and Additional SP Souvik Dey during a protest organized by the Youth Tipra Federation (YTF) — the youth wing of Tipra Motha — on June 2 in Gomati district. Following the protest, both officers were “closed” to the police headquarters on June 4, pending review of their actions during the incident.
Since their removal, SP of Sepahijala district, Bijoy Debbarma, had been holding additional charge of SP, Gomati. With the latest reshuffle, Debbarma has now been relieved from this additional responsibility.
Meanwhile, Souvik Dey has been appointed as the new Additional SP of the Tripura Police Communication Battalion (TPCB), marking his return to a functional posting after two months of administrative limbo.
The reshuffle is seen as an effort by the state government to bring stability and clarity to district-level policing, especially in sensitive areas that have witnessed political protests and unrest in recent months.
Senior officials have confirmed that all newly transferred officers are expected to assume their respective charges immediately. The government has not issued any official statement linking the transfers directly to the YTF protest, but insiders suggest the move aims to restore confidence in district-level law enforcement and strengthen public administration.
