Uttarkashi (Uttarakhand), Aug 7: In the wake of the devastating twin cloudbursts that struck Uttarkashi’s Dharali region, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the disaster-hit zone on Thursday to assess the ongoing relief and rescue operations. He met with officials from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and administrative teams leading the emergency efforts.

During the visit, CM Dhami directed authorities to intensify heli-rescue operations to ensure the rapid evacuation of stranded individuals. He also instructed officials to expedite the restoration of essential services, including roads, electricity, communication networks, drinking water, and food supplies.

Taking to social media platform X, the Chief Minister shared updates from his visit. “This morning in Uttarkashi, I met with NDRF, SDRF, and administrative officials to review the progress of relief and rescue operations in the Dharali area,” he wrote. “Necessary instructions were given to make heli-rescue operations more effective and to accelerate the restoration of infrastructure and essential supplies.”

CM Dhami praised the tireless work of the rescue teams. “I appreciate the courage and dedication of all teams engaged in round-the-clock rescue operations. Despite adverse conditions, their commitment sets an exemplary standard in disaster management,” he stated.

The Chief Minister’s visit comes amid continued efforts to locate missing persons and assist those affected by the disaster, which has caused significant damage to life and infrastructure.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts, including Pauri Garhwal, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Dehradun, Champawat, Udham Singh Nagar, and Bageshwar, till August 12. Schools in many areas have been closed, and residents have been advised to remain indoors as the monsoon continues to batter the hill state.
