Kathmandu, Sep 22: Nepali President Ram Chandra Poudel on Monday administered the oath of office to four new ministers in the interim government led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki. The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Office of the President in Kathmandu and broadcast live on national television.

Former Supreme Court Justice Anil Kumar Sinha was appointed minister for industry, commerce and supplies, as well as minister for land management, cooperatives and poverty alleviation. He will also oversee the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, which was earlier under the charge of Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal.

Mahabir Pun took charge as minister for education, science and technology, while Madan Prasad Pariyar was sworn in as minister for agriculture and livestock development. Jagdish Kharel assumed responsibility for the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

Prime Minister Sushila Karki, a former chief justice, was appointed on September 12, following the resignation of KP Sharma Oli on September 9 amid deadly protests in Kathmandu and other regions. The first three members of her cabinet were sworn in on September 15. A fresh general election has been scheduled for March 5, 2026.

Meanwhile, India reiterated its “unwavering support” for peace and stability in Nepal. Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India, as a close neighbour and fellow democracy, will continue working closely with the Himalayan nation for the prosperity of both peoples. He confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently held a telephonic conversation with PM Karki, extending condolences over the loss of lives in recent unrest and reaffirming India’s commitment to support Nepal’s interim leadership.

PM Modi also conveyed warm greetings to the people of Nepal on the eve of their National Day, underscoring the special ties between the two countries.
