Agartala, Sep 22: Tripura Governor Shri Indra Sena Reddy Nallu on Monday joined the historic inauguration of the redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari temple premises at Udaipur, an event led by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in the afternoon.

The redevelopment of the 524-year-old shrine, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas revered by Hindus, marks a major milestone in preserving and promoting Tripura’s cultural and spiritual heritage. Executed under the Union Tourism Ministry’s PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme, the project has been completed at a cost of over ₹54 crore.

Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, along with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, ministers and senior officials, accompanied the Prime Minister during the programme. The Governor praised the Centre and the state government for their coordinated efforts in redeveloping the temple and its surroundings, making the complex more attractive for devotees and tourists.

Following the inauguration, the Governor, along with dignitaries, visited various facilities created under the project, including improved pathways, a rejuvenated temple pond, modern amenities for pilgrims, and an exhibition highlighting the temple’s history and Tripura’s royal legacy. He also joined devotees in offering prayers at the sanctum.

Speaking on the occasion, officials said the project is expected to significantly boost tourism in Gomati district, generating direct and indirect employment for local communities including guides, transporters, shopkeepers, and hoteliers. With improved facilities, the daily footfall of pilgrims is anticipated to double in the coming years.

The Governor underscored that the redevelopment reflects the government’s commitment to protecting the state’s heritage while ensuring better facilities for visitors. He congratulated the people of Tripura, noting that the temple stands as a timeless symbol of devotion and the rich traditions of the state.
