Agartala, Sept 23:
In a major step to address growing traffic congestion in the state capital, the Tripura government has unveiled plans to construct a new flyover in Agartala city. The proposed flyover will stretch from IGM Chowmuhani to a point near the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), passing through key intersections including RMS Chowmuhani, Bidurkarta Chowmuhani, Colonel Chowmuhani, North Gate, and the Radhanagar Motor Stand.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha shared the details in a written reply to a question raised by MLA Dipankar Sen on the concluding day of the Assembly session. He informed the House that the tender for the project was floated on July 16 this year, and the process of selecting a contractor is expected to be completed shortly. Once finalized, construction work will begin without delay.

The Chief Minister further stated that a segment of the flyover would be extended from RMS Chowmuhani toward Orient Chowmuhani, thereby enhancing its utility and ensuring smoother traffic flow in one of the busiest stretches of the capital.

Responding to queries on further expansion, Dr. Saha clarified that the state government has no immediate plans to extend the existing Agartala flyover up to Radhanagar Motor Stand and Kaman Chowmuhani. Instead, the focus will remain on the new project, which is expected to significantly decongest city roads and improve urban mobility.

As part of broader infrastructure development efforts, Dr. Saha also announced that a new flyover is being planned in Udaipur. This flyover will connect Jagannath Chowmuhani to Khilpara, addressing traffic challenges in the district town while supporting regional growth.

The initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to modernizing urban infrastructure and easing commuting challenges for the people of Tripura.
