Agartala, Oct 15 — In a first-of-its-kind initiative in Tripura, Agartala Public School (English Medium) celebrated the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam as ‘Students Day’, marking a historic and inspiring tribute to the visionary known as the “Missile Man of India.”

The event, held at Sukanta Academy Auditorium in Agartala, witnessed enthusiastic participation from dignitaries, educators, students, and parents, all united in reflecting on Dr. Kalam’s enduring legacy as a scientist, teacher, and former President of India.

Tripura’s Minister for Science, Technology & Environment, Animesh Debbarma, graced the occasion as chief guest and commended the school for its pioneering effort. He announced his commitment to propose the official recognition of October 15 as Students’ Day in the upcoming Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha.

“I was unaware that this day is globally observed as Students’ Day until I learned it from Arun Nath. After researching, I realized its global significance. Every year, a theme highlights innovation and discovery, and this year’s theme — ‘Empowering Students as Agents of Innovation and Change’ — truly embodies Dr. Kalam’s vision,” said Minister Debbarma.

He added, “Dr. Kalam proved that one need not be born into privilege to achieve greatness. His life teaches that dedication and learning can overcome any obstacle. I will raise this matter in the Cabinet so that Tripura officially celebrates Students’ Day every year.”

Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder praised the school for honoring Dr. Kalam’s ideals, while retired professor Purnendu Kanti Das highlighted UNESCO’s recognition of the day and recounted Dr. Kalam’s journey from selling newspapers to becoming President.

School Secretary and Founder Arun Nath expressed pride in organizing the event, emphasizing that Tripura’s observance aims to inspire youth and uphold Dr. Kalam’s vision for education and nation-building.
