Agartala: Tripura’s Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Ratan Lal Nath, on Saturday visited the cultivable land of farmer Durga Munda in Kalpara under Ishanpur Gram Panchayat, whose paddy crop was completely destroyed due to the alleged use of harmful herbicides by miscreants.
Upon receiving reports of the incident, the Minister personally visited the site to assess the damage and instructed officials from the Agriculture Department to extend all possible support to the affected farmer. He also directed them to prepare a detailed report and ensure immediate assistance under available government schemes.
Speaking to reporters during the visit, Minister Nath condemned the incident and expressed deep concern over such destructive acts. “Farmers are like gods who toil day and night to feed the people of our state and the nation. It is heartbreaking to see someone’s hard work destroyed intentionally. Around 80% of the crop here has been damaged. Our government stands firmly with the farmers, and we will extend every possible form of assistance, even if the farmer is not insured,” he said.
The Minister recalled that he had recently visited the same area to plant paddy, which had shown promising growth. “Such incidents should never happen. It is our collective responsibility as a society to identify and bring the culprits to justice,” he added.
He further informed that a team from the Agriculture Department had already begun collecting detailed data on the affected land and farmers to determine the scale of compensation and relief.
Emphasizing the importance of agricultural insurance, Nath urged all farmers to insure their crops under government schemes to safeguard against unforeseen losses in the future.
