Agartala, November 8:
Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has lauded the joint efforts of Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GB Pant Hospital for achieving a major breakthrough in neurological care by successfully performing a complex aneurysm coiling procedure that saved the life of a 54-year-old patient from Banamalipur.

Under the leadership of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Anup Saha and Medical Superintendent Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, the Neurology Department executed the intricate surgery with precision and teamwork, marking a significant milestone in the state’s medical advancement.

The patient, who had suffered a stroke on September 21, 2025, was initially treated and discharged but returned to GB Pant Hospital on October 22 after developing further complications. MRI and angiography tests revealed a severe brain aneurysm, prompting neurologist and stroke specialist Dr. Abir Lal Nath to recommend immediate coiling surgery — a life-saving but complex procedure.

Dr. Nath assured the patient’s family that the operation would be carried out free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY scheme. Following the family’s consent, the three-hour surgery was performed on November 5, 2025, by Dr. Nath, assisted by Dr. Arpan Mitra and anesthetist Dr. Manimoy Debbarma. The procedure was further supported by nursing officers Pran Krishna Deb, Titiksha Majumdar, Debabrata Debnath, and Manas Dutta, as well as cath lab technicians Sanjay Ghosh and Arijit Pal.

Additional medical and nursing support came from Dr. Abhijit Acharjee, Dr. Supratim Saha, Dr. Shubhrajit Das, Dr. Poulomi Nag, Dr. Arkaprabha Roy Choudhury, and staff members Sebika Dutta, Rozy Chakraborty, Surajit Sutradhar, Arnika Sinha, and Abul Hossain.

The Chief Minister commended the medical team for their exemplary service, stating, “This achievement reflects Tripura’s growing capabilities in advanced healthcare and our government’s dedication to ensuring that life-saving treatments are accessible to all.”
