Agartala, December 19 — Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday said the Government of India is closely monitoring the rapidly evolving situation in neighbouring Bangladesh, where a growing anti-India movement and incidents of violence against minorities have raised serious concerns. He asserted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is fully prepared to counter any eventuality along the international border.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme for the distribution of certificates to Graded Artists and students who passed out from the Tripura Film & Television Institute (TFTI) at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, the Chief Minister stressed that India’s security framework is robust, modern and technologically advanced.

Dr Saha said contemporary conflicts are no longer limited to conventional border engagements. “This is an era of technological warfare. It is not just about deploying troops at the border anymore. Drone technology, surveillance systems and advanced air defence mechanisms have transformed the way wars are fought,” he said, adding that India is well equipped to respond to any threat or challenge.

Referring to recent developments in Bangladesh, the Chief Minister remarked that the country’s political and security situation took a decisive turn after former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was compelled to leave the country. “After that, it became clear in which direction Bangladesh was moving. Criminals, militants, thieves and dacoits were reportedly released as jail doors were opened, and such instability was bound to follow,” he claimed.

However, Dr Saha underlined that Bangladesh remains an international and diplomatic issue, and all developments are being conveyed to the central government through appropriate channels. “As a border state, Tripura remains alert. I can assure the people that our security arrangements are very strong and our borders are being guarded effectively,” he said.

He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Union Cabinet are fully apprised of the situation in Bangladesh. According to the Chief Minister, the Centre is assessing developments continuously and will take all necessary steps at the appropriate time. “Whatever is required will be done. Time will speak,” he remarked.

Highlighting India’s expanding defence capabilities, Dr Saha referred to a recent drone show organised by the Indian Army at the Assam Rifles ground. He said the event showcased the advanced technology, surveillance systems and air defence infrastructure now available to India’s armed forces, reflecting the country’s preparedness in the face of emerging security challenges.

India shares a border of over 4,000 kilometres with Bangladesh across several states. Tripura, in particular, is strategically sensitive as it is surrounded by Bangladesh on three sides and has an 856-km-long international border. Given the recent developments, the Chief Minister said heightened vigilance and coordination with central agencies remain key to ensuring peace and security in the region.
