Agartala, June 21: The Rabindra-Nazrul Jayanti festival was celebrated with great reverence and cultural grandeur at 5 PM on June 19 in Agartala. The event was organized jointly by Rabindra Parishad Dakshini House, Sur Sadhana Cultural Academy, and Kureghar Social Organization. Held in tribute to two of Bengal’s greatest literary icons—Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam—the celebration drew a diverse audience of artists, cultural figures, and enthusiasts.

The event was graced by several distinguished guests. Chief guest Jharna Debbarma, Vice Chairperson of the Tripura Women’s Commission, was joined by special guests from the Department of Information and Cultural Affairs, Government of Tripura, including cultural stalwart Subrata Chakraborty. Noted literary personalities such as Dr. Debabrata Deb Roy, President of Maitree Sangsad, and acclaimed writer-poet Niyati Roy Barman also lent their presence and insights.

The program began with the ceremonial lighting of lamps, followed by floral tributes to the portraits of Tagore and Nazrul. Guests reflected on the enduring legacy of the two poets and the relevance of their messages in today’s world through a compelling discussion.

A vibrant cultural performance followed, featuring solo and group recitations, songs, dances, and poetic renditions inspired by the works of both poets. A highlight of the evening was a musical play directed by Shyamal Kanti De, which captivated the audience.

The event was hosted with grace by poets and orators Sutapa Bhattacharya and Sumita Vardhan Mahasaya. Debanjana Sen, Secretary of Kureghar Social Organization, concluded the evening with heartfelt thanks and a musical tribute, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to promoting cultural heritage through such meaningful initiatives.
