Agartala, June 21: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has launched a scathing attack on the state government, alleging that thousands of students in government-run schools have yet to receive their textbooks—nearly three months into the academic year. The party has termed the situation a clear case of administrative failure and demanded immediate corrective action.

In a strongly worded statement issued on Saturday, TPCC President Asish Kumar Saha described the delay as a “shameful chapter” under a government headed by a Chief Minister who also holds the education portfolio. “This delay in textbook distribution is not an isolated case—it has persisted for the past three academic years,” Saha said. “It reflects not only bureaucratic inefficiency but also a worrying level of political indifference.”

Saha further criticized the government’s claims of ushering in “Amrit Kaal” and delivering good governance, calling them hollow in light of the repeated lapses in basic educational services. He contrasted the situation in government schools with private institutions—especially those attended by the children of ministers and wealthy families—where textbooks are reportedly distributed on time.

The Congress president also took aim at the National Education Policy (NEP), accusing it of deepening educational inequality. “The NEP is designed in a way that pushes underprivileged children toward vocational training while ensuring high-quality education remains accessible only to the privileged,” he alleged.

Calling education a fundamental right that should be guaranteed for all, the Congress demanded urgent government intervention to resolve the issue. “The government must be held accountable for this recurring failure. Education cannot wait,” the statement concluded.

The TPCC has urged civil society and education stakeholders to raise their voices in support of timely and equitable access to educational resources for every child in Tripura.
