Agartala, June 7: A high-level delegation from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, arrived in Agartala on Saturday to explore ways to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and services at Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital.

The team, led by AIIMS Director Prof. (Dr.) M. Srinivas, includes senior experts Dr. Ramesh Agarwal, Dr. Lakshmitej Undavalli, and Dr. Aruna Kumari. The visit follows an invitation from Chief Minister and Health Minister Dr. Manik Saha, who chaired a detailed review meeting with the AIIMS team at the Tripura Institution for Transformation.

Emphasizing the importance of digital health, Dr. Saha highlighted the urgent need for expanding tele-education and tele-consultation services across the state. He called for AIIMS’ active support in upgrading infrastructure, enhancing medical education, and introducing super-specialty services in AGMC and GBP Hospital.

Tripura Health Secretary Kiran Gitte presented an overview of the state’s ongoing healthcare initiatives, focusing on improving patient care, medical training, and infrastructure. The meeting also reviewed ongoing projects and discussed future strategies to develop AGMC and GBP into premier institutions.

Dr. Srinivas reaffirmed AIIMS’ commitment to supporting Tripura’s healthcare goals. He stressed the importance of establishing paperless, IT-driven hospital systems, improving emergency services, enhancing hospital administration, and training healthcare professionals.

The meeting was attended by MLA Mina Rani Sarkar, OSD to CM Parmananda Sarkar Banerjee, Director of Health Services Dr. Tapan Majumder, AGMC Principal Prof. (Dr.) Anup Saha, GBP Superintendent Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, and other senior health officials.

Later, the AIIMS team, accompanied by Kiran Gitte and health department officials, conducted a field inspection of facilities at AGMC and GBP Hospital to assess current infrastructure and identify areas for improvement.
