Agartala, Jan 22: In the run-up to Republic Day celebrations, the Albert Ekka Brigade, renowned for its role in the 1971 India-Pakistan war from the Tripura sector, conducted a “Know Your Army” campaign in Agartala on Thursday. The initiative aimed to familiarize citizens, especially the youth, with the Indian Army’s ethos, capabilities, and commitment to nation-building.

As part of the campaign, a wide-ranging display of modern military weapons and equipment was organized at the Albert Ekka War Memorial. Army personnel explained the operational features and strategic significance of the equipment, drawing keen interest from visitors. An interactive session allowed students and members of the general public to engage directly with soldiers, learning about Army life, training standards, discipline, and career opportunities. Officials noted that the interaction inspired young minds and strengthened military-civilian bonding.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents, students, and visitors, who appreciated the opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of the Indian Army’s dedication to national security. Highlighting its outreach, the Brigade had earlier organized a similar weapons display at the Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT), motivating students and fostering patriotism.

The Albert Ekka Brigade has a distinguished history, having played a pivotal role in the 1971 war, particularly during the Battle of Gangasagar near the Tripura border. Lance Naik Albert Ekka of the 14th Guards sacrificed his life clearing a critical enemy bunker, for which he was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra—the only one awarded during the 1971 war in that sector. The Brigade has earned two of the highest gallantry awards in war and peacetime.

Recently relocated to the Agartala Military Station, the Brigade’s presence holds historical significance, as it had launched into Operation Cactus Lily from the same region during the 1971 conflict. Through initiatives like the “Know Your Army” campaign, the Albert Ekka Brigade continues to foster patriotism, awareness, and trust between the Indian Army and the citizens it serves.
