Agartala, June 6:
The Amra Bangali Party on Thursday held a tribute programme at its state office to commemorate the Bengali victims of the June 6, 1980 massacre in Tripura. The sombre occasion was marked by strong demands for justice, accountability, and long-overdue rehabilitation for those affected by the ethnic violence.

Party leaders and supporters paid homage to those who lost their lives and condemned what they termed as decades of political exploitation of the tragedy. Speaking at the event, party representatives accused major political parties—including the BJP, CPI(M), and Congress—of using the incident for vote bank politics without delivering justice.

They reminded that the BJP, prior to forming the government in 2018, had assured strict action against those involved in the killings. However, even after six years in power, no concrete steps have been taken, the party alleged.

Amra Bangali leaders reiterated their core demands, which include the identification and punishment of those responsible for the massacre and permanent rehabilitation for the families displaced from Autonomous District Council (ADC) areas during the unrest. Many of these displaced families, they claimed, are still living in distress without adequate government support.

The party also criticized the state’s policy of extending financial aid and facilities to surrendered extremists, arguing that the actual victims of the 1980 violence remain neglected. “While militants are being rewarded, the families of the dead and displaced are yet to receive justice,” a senior party member stated.

The party has warned of launching a broader democratic agitation across the state if their long-pending demands continue to be ignored.

The June 6 observance served both as a tribute to the victims and a renewed call for justice and recognition of a dark chapter in Tripura’s history that continues to haunt affected communities.
