Agartala: Oct 01: Following student protests, the Higher Education Department has made a significant decision regarding the results of the first semester examinations for the 2023-2024 academic year in various colleges under Tripura University and MBBU.

In a press conference held at Shiksha Bhavan on Tuesday, the Director of Higher Education, Animesh Debbarma, announced that a large number of students had failed after the publication of the results. In response to the protests by these students, the Higher Education Department held discussions with the authorities of both universities. As a result, the universities re-evaluated the answer scripts, allowing approximately 8,000 failed students to appear in the next semester examinations.

The Director expressed hope that this decision would benefit the students. He clarified that while these students can appear in the next semester, they will need to re-appear in exams for the subjects they fail to pass in the subsequent semester.

Debbarma also noted that the implementation of the National Education Policy has introduced changes in higher education, which students are finding difficult to adapt to. He emphasized the importance of students embracing the benefits of the new policy. This decision aims to help students adjust to the new education system.

In summary, the Higher Education Department has responded to student protests by allowing a large number of failed students to appear in the next semester examinations, aiming to alleviate academic stress caused by the new National Education Policy.
